Alfanar's Principles

A number of principles guide all aspects of Alfanar's work, including our approach to venture philanthropy and the relationships we build with our partners, donor-investors, and supporters.

  • Active Partnership - Alfanar prides itself on building partnership, not dependency. Alfanar aims to build active partnerships based on trust, honesty, integrity, reliability, openness, and accountability with investees, volunteers, and supporters.
  • Long-Term Support - Alfanar is committed to making long-term investments in organisations to ensure that they achieve both their social objectives and greater financial independence. We focus our efforts on supporting our partners' visions and activities by strenthening their organisational, management and governance structures over time.
  • Engaged Local Presence - Alfanar has established a local presence in Cairo, Egypt, which allows us to work closely with partner organisations-building trust and respect, facilitating synergies between organisations when appropriate, and responding to needs efficiently and effectively. Alfanar sources local expertise, advice, and volunteers to work with partners whenever possible. Alfanar believes in establishing an engaged local presence in each county it expands to.
  • Independence - Alfanar is not affiliated with any government, commercial enterprise or religious institution. While we are open to considering ideas and approaches from various sources, we work hard to maintain our independence of purpose and mission.
  • Transparency - Alfanar prides itself on publishing all financial reports, accounts, and evaluations online through our website.
  • Accountability - Alfanar holds itself accountable to its partners, donor-investors, and supporters for the commitments we make. In turn, we expect our partners to be accountable for the plans, targets, and processes they commit to when working with us. We maintain high expectations of and closely monitor our partners and ourselves.
