Alfanar is an Arab charitable foundation that supports enterprising organisations in the region with the financial support they need to implement their projects, and the advice and expertise that allows them to fulfil their social objectives while becoming more financially independent.
Tarek Ben Halim founded Alfanar. He believed that supporting these organisations, the leaders within them, and the communities they help, strengthens and invigorates Arab society.
The organisations and leaders Alfanar supports work on reducing poverty, improving the quality of education, widening access to health care and assisting individuals to access their social, economic and human rights. In all cases, Alfanar partners with organisations which encourage the active participation of their stakeholders - not as beneficiaries, but as rights holders.
Meaning “beacon” or “lighthouse” in Arabic, we believe passionately that there is positive change in the region, and that we can assist extraordinary organisations and individuals whose work, often in adverse and difficult circumstances, is making a real, positive impact on the lives of those in their communities.
