Ensuring that children have the education that they deserve.
The Egyptian education system lacks the teachers and funds to provide effective education to all of Egypt's growing population of young people. When children fall through the net fo the state education system, there is very little chance for them to be able to join it again. Since 2010, Educate Me has worked in Talbeya, one of Cairo's slums, to try to ensure that the children of this deprived neighbourhood are given a chance at gaining the education that they deserve.
Educate Me employs a learner-centered skill-based teaching approach that builds character and emphasizes self-actualisation alongside the rigorous instruction of traditional curriculum topics. EM builds the following skills – critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, productivity – while instilling the following values – perseverance, honesty, respect, preserving resources, kindness, learning, choice and commitment – in students. Educate Me’s approach is grounded in research, which shows that fostering a growth mindset in children and certain character traits is more likely to lead to adulthood success than academic achievement on its own.
Educate Me has three streams of activity: professional development, preschool, community school. The former focuses on training teachers, especially those educators working in public and semi-public schools, as well as orphanages and NGOs. The preschool and community school run by Educate Me act as “Centres of Excellence”, allowing Educate Me to test and improve its pedagogical approach and the teacher trainings it develops.
Our Investment Focus
Our Investment Focus: Alfanar’s long-term investment in Educate Me will help them grow their current community school and set up a national teacher training programme to reach over 3,000 public and semi-public school educators through the sale of its courses.
